EURO 2012

"The success of Portugal at UEFA EURO 2004™ can be an inspiration to Poland and Ukraine as they begin the long process of preparing to host UEFA EURO 2012." - This was the message from Polish Football Association president Michał Listkiewicz in Cardiff following the victory of the joint Polish and Ukrainian bid. Listkiewicz recalled how Portugal was a surprise choice for many critics to stage the 2004 finals and said: "UEFA's policy to grant big tournaments to new regions and new countries is a really great initiative. Let's remind ourselves of Portugal - and this was the best EURO ever."

Pois é... Agora que o Mundial da África do Sul se está a esfumar, nada melhor que pensar já na próxima competição! Não vou estar aqui a lamentar-me o quão frustrante é a ausência de Portugal (Deus queira que Queirós tenha uma calculadora cientifica daquelas potentissímas para tal não acontecer), mas sim vou falar de um campeonato que pode ser o auge para os Meninos de Zagreb, tal como a Geração de Ouro foi para o Futebol Português...

Assim sendo vamos ter o Euro 2012 em 2 belos países - Poland and Ukraine - que tanto dizem aos Meninos... Se bem que este último ainda não tenha perdido a virgindade com nenhum dos nossos membros, a vontade essa de fazer uma aparição por aquelas bandas é incomensurável!

Mas o nosso amigo Platini (nosso dos portistas pois claro), já fez questão de enviar um recado à Organização do evento: "Poland and Ukraine have to guarantee that the stadiums in Warsaw and Kiev will be ready on time. He warned that organization of Euro 2012 without the capitals of these countries will not be possible".

Com o andar da carruagem, parece que o Euro 2012 vai ser mesmo lá apesar de todos os contratempos. Mas há quem sempre tente tirar a oportunidade dos Meninos de Zagreb brilharem ao seu mais alto nível: " Scotland has reportedly told UEFA it could step in and host the tournament. Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith told BBC Sport: "We have made it clear that we'd like to be considered if it's not going ahead in Ukraine and Poland. Although Michel Platini has maintained there are no plans to hold Euro 2012 outside of Poland and Ukraine, Gordon Smith and the SFA remain optimistic stating, "I said was that we'd like to be considered if that situation arose. We haven't been told we are on standby or anything like that.""We will do everything possible so Poland and Ukraine can host Euro 2012. The only reason not to go ahead would be the absence of a stadium in Warsaw and Kiev," said Platini.
